The J3s are excellent. Tight distinct bass and extremely clear treble. The best I've used, including klipsch s4. They are always priced at $30 but occasionally drop to 25

After reading some of the reviews, these don't appear to be very good for exercising (too heavy, fall out) ... anyone have personal experience?

Which set are you talking about? I owned the J2s for about a year, and they were fine for exercising. Not the most comfortable set I've ever owned, but they actually stayed in better than most sets of buds I've owned. I actually just lost them, and need to replace a set. Thinking about the J3s due to music controls and in-line mic, but I'm curious how they would hold up in the long-term to abuse like running.

Edit: On closer inspection, apparently there is a difference between the J3s and the J3Ms, which include the microphone but are more expensive. More than I want to pay for a set of workout headphones. Darn.

the etys were favored by motorcyclists for isolation, meant for stationary monitoring so they get microphonics

I pretty much tried every in-ear headphones there were but after getting tired of running in them and constently adjusting and putting them back in I went back to the standard headphones. Last year I discovered the Nike Flow headphones [electotronics.com] which, while they dont have the best sound, allows me to run forever without having to adjust them. Just my two cents!!

I already have stock headphones that came with my Sansa ... so don't know if any of these would compare strictly from a running perspective. I'm not a stickler on audio quality (why I still use the stock), so I would only "upgrade" if they stay in my ear better while running.

Yeah, the reviews are so so on all of them. I would just stick with the ~$20 Skull Candy...
